The Ibis Budget Málaga Centro hotel building, located at 3 Pasillo de Guimbarda in the Málaga Centro district, will be demolished. This decision follows a fire, which started in the early hours of May 25th and remained active for 23 days, hindering firefighting efforts and investigations into its causes.
Partial demolition work on the building's roof will commence this Wednesday. These actions, coordinated by the Málaga Fire Brigade and the Scientific Police, aim to fully extinguish remaining hotspots and create conditions for accessing the fire's origin point.
The Málaga City Council, through its Urban Planning department, has required the property owner to undertake urgent structural repairs, including the removal of fire-damaged wooden roof joists. Specialized machinery, such as a 29-meter mechanical arm, will be used for this work, expected to last about a week.
These interventions complement earlier precautionary measures, including perimeter fencing and boarding up of access points to ensure public safety and prevent debris fall.
While the total demolition of the hotel is now irreversible, it will not happen immediately. The investigation must be completed, and necessary technical approvals and urban planning permits must be obtained first.
