The event took place at Muelle Uno, in front of the Pompidou Centre in Málaga, as part of the Tip Toe International Dance Festival. Antonio Banderas, the promoter of the initiative, emphasized that this marks the beginning of a series of annual festivals, with the goal of “bringing performing arts to the streets, taking them off the stages and putting them at the service of citizens.”
Under the direction of Lucía Lacarra, approximately six hundred students, teachers, and dance professionals from across Andalucía and the province of Málaga participated in this unique activity. The aim was to share with the city one of ballet's fundamental exercises, reflecting the discipline, hard work, and dedication inherent in this technique, as well as highlighting “the beauty and elegance of this art,” as reported by the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank.
“"There are not many dance festivals at the moment, because there are few people at an institutional level who want to make the effort, and it takes someone like Antonio Banderas, with that passion for the performing arts, to accept the great challenge."
During the presentation of the Tip Toe Festival, held this week, Banderas recalled that from the conception of the Teatro del Soho, his intention was to “include dance as one of the performing arts that should be part of it.” For this reason, the word “dance” prominently features on the building's facade, alongside “theatre, music, and Málaga.”
Lucía Lacarra, recognized as a ballet legend in Spain, described her collaboration with Banderas as “an unexpected gift of life,” allowing her to contribute to the world of dance, to which she has dedicated her life.
