The Málaga subway recorded an average of nearly 55,000 daily trips and over 1.6 million monthly trips between January 1 and June 30. This figure shows a growth of 279,042 passengers compared to the same period in 2025.
The Minister of Public Works and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, highlighted that these figures reflect the consolidation of the Málaga Metro as a central hub for urban mobility, particularly since the service extension to the city center. He noted that the provision of quality service is met with a positive response from citizens, who choose it as their preferred mode for daily commutes.
The analysis of transport passes reveals a shift in user habits. The multimodal pass from the Metropolitan Transport Consortium has become the most used, accounting for 43% of validations, a three percentage point increase. Meanwhile, the share of Málaga Metro's own wallet pass has decreased to 36%.
Furthermore, the subsidized wallet pass from the Consortium, which includes the youth and large family passes, has advanced to 12%. Digital payment options, such as direct validation with bank cards or mobile phones (EMV), MásMetro, and Postpaid ABT, collectively represent 5% of validations, doubling their share in one year and indicating a growing diversification of access channels and the adoption of new payment solutions.
The increase in demand during the first half of 2026 surpasses the previous year's results, occurring amidst a context of diversifying payment methods and the consolidation of public transport during periods of high mobility, such as Easter week.
During Easter week, the Málaga Metro transported 719,853 travelers, a historic figure slightly exceeding that of 2025 and underscoring the subway's importance for accessing the city center during times of high travel concentration. The special Easter operation included 68 hours of uninterrupted service and extended operating hours.
Lines 1 and 2 of the Málaga Metro span 13.6 kilometers and have 19 stations, connecting the city center with the main university, health, administrative, and sports hubs.
