Following the fireworks that announced the start of the Feria de Málaga 2026, the traditional romería filled the streets of the city center. Carts, horses, hats, ruffles, and flowers created a festive scene that culminated with the procession heading towards the barrio de la Victoria.
Despite the early morning humidity, heat became the day's main protagonist. Phrases like "You can't stand this!" were repeated among attendees, though the excitement of the festival prevailed.

One of the day's highlights occurred at 11:25 AM in front of the city center's main entrance, when the standard-bearer, María Barranco, accompanied by the mayor Francisco de la Torre, raised the flag of Málaga. The banner flew to the sound of the Anthem of Andalusia and the Anthem of Spain, performed by the Municipal Band.
Subsequently, a group of verdiales musicians accompanied the procession on its way to the barrio de la Victoria. The route, under an increasingly intense sun, made fans and bottles of cold water essential allies for attendees.
Finally, at 1:42 PM, the romería reached its destination at the Santuario de la Victoria. Inside the temple, the bustle gave way to reverence, with the sound of malagueñas and the city's flag being presented before the Virgen de la Victoria, patron saint of Málaga. The ceremony concluded with the reading of the Word of God and a blessing.
The romería concluded its journey, but the Feria de Málaga has only just begun, consolidating a tradition that not even the heat could overshadow.
