The Conecta_Málaga plan foresees an investment of 30 million euros until 2030 for the renovation of streets, improvement of public spaces, and promotion of social projects and local commerce in various city neighborhoods. Among the beneficiary areas are Las Flores, Lagunillas, Cruz del Humilladero, and Capuchinos.
The program, partially funded by FEDER European funds, has begun its execution with 18 actions. Although the initial project was valued at 30 million, the European resolution granted around 12 million. The City Council has decided to maintain the full plan, covering the difference of approximately 18 million euros with its own resources.
This decision also aims to facilitate access to more European funding. If the City Council certifies works equivalent to 40% of the granted aid before March 2027, it can opt for additional funds. The regulations allow for the incorporation of ongoing projects, such as the regeneration of Lagunillas or the recovery of the San Miguel Historic Cemetery.
Investments will be distributed across a dozen neighborhoods, including La Unión, Santa Marta, Santa Julia, Los Palomares, Capuchinos, El Molinillo, La Merced, La Goleta, San Felipe Neri, El Ejido, La Victoria, and Lagunillas-Cruz Verde. Actions will vary according to detected needs, ranging from street and infrastructure renovation to the installation of clean points and modernization of commercial areas.
The plan also includes social initiatives, such as the Embárriate program, which will offer sports, cultural, and educational activities for young people in vulnerable neighborhoods like Las Flores, Santa Julia, Los Palomares, or Cruz Verde-Lagunillas, aiming to foster their integration.
The recovery of the San Miguel Historic Cemetery is one of the highlighted projects, with works including the renovation of pathways, paving, ornamental lighting, and improvement of the rainwater drainage system. This action is part of the municipal strategy to recover heritage sites as cultural and tourist attractions.
The regeneration of Lagunillas street and Miguel de los Reyes square is also progressing, with a second phase of works exceeding 2.4 million euros to transform this area of the Historic Center.
The City Council has until December 2030 to execute the 18 planned actions and aims to secure more European funding by meeting the execution objectives set by the European Union.
