The Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) will begin its 26/27 subscription season on October 8 and 9, at 8 PM, at the Cervantes Theatre. The orchestra pays homage to Mexico with a program that will explore the musical soul of the Latin American country.
Under the baton of its titular and artistic director, José María Moreno, the OFM will present a repertoire including works by Mexican composers and the participation of Venezuelan trumpeter Pacho Flores as soloist.
The first part of the concert will open with 'Morocota,' a Venezuelan waltz by Pacho Flores himself, performed by him as the solo trumpeter. This will be followed by 'Concierto de Otoño' by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, a piece written for the trumpet and premiered by Flores in 2018.
The second part of the program will feature 'Huapango' by José Pablo Moncayo, based on popular music from Veracruz, and 'Danzón nº 2' by Arturo Márquez, a tribute to Mexican urban music. The inaugural concert will conclude with 'La noche de los Mayas' by Silvestre Revueltas.
“"The trumpet is the queen in the heart of Mexico. We find it in practically all forms of popular musical expression; it is the Mexican cry of joy and pain."
José María Moreno, artistic and titular director of the OFM since 2020, is recognized for his versatility and energy in conducting international orchestras. Meanwhile, Pacho Flores has received awards in numerous international competitions and is acclaimed for his performances across various musical styles.
