José María Román, a historic socialist leader and mayor of Chiclana, has expressed a personal stance that diverges from the official strategy of the Andalusian PSOE, advocating for facilitating Juanma Moreno's (PP) investiture as President of the Junta de Andalucía through an abstention.
Román clarified that his reflection is strictly personal and not an attempt to lead an internal party faction. The abstention would be contingent upon the leader of the Andalusian PP accepting the conditions set by the Socialist Party, primarily the adoption of the new financing system proposed by the central government, championed by the current Secretary General of the PSOE of Andalucía, María Jesús Montero.
The mayor of Chiclana argues that this new financing, amounting to 9 billion euros, would provide necessary funds for healthcare, infrastructure, and social services in Andalucía. "I have spent the last eight years as mayor asking the regional government for investments in Chiclana, especially in healthcare, and the argument is often that there is no money," Román stated.
Furthermore, Román believes that allowing Moreno's investiture under these conditions would prevent Vox from entering the Andalusian government. "If we have the possibility of obtaining more money for public services in Andalucía and also preventing Vox from entering the Andalusian government, I am in favor of at least reflecting on it," he said, describing Vox's policies as "clearly antisocial".
Román insists his motivation is to "help improve people's lives" and views Vox's potential entry into government as detrimental to Andalucía. Despite being aware of the Andalusian PSOE leadership's opposing stance, he reiterates that his reflections are individual and have not been shared with party bodies.
