The Plenary Session of the Baena City Council has given the green light to the Strategic Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change. The proposal received affirmative votes from the PSOE and IU, an abstention from the PP, and a negative vote from VOX.
This plan, developed by the University of Seville, responds to regional regulations urging local entities to create tools for energy transition and emission reduction. It is a long-term management document with 1,255 measures, aiming to "improve people's lives" and mitigate climate change impacts, particularly on agriculture, based on scientific endorsement and without imposing coercive measures or increasing taxes.
Unanimously, the Conservation and Management Plan for La Quinta Lagoon was also approved, a crucial step for its protection as a Concerted Natural Reserve. This wetland is one of the most valuable in the southern part of the province of Córdoba, notable for its landscape value and its critical role as a refuge, feeding ground, and nesting site for numerous bird species, many of which are protected or severely endangered.
The plan for La Quinta Lagoon details the regulatory and competency framework, general description of the area, environmental diagnosis, pressures, threats, conservation and management objectives, zoning, use regulations, management measures program, monitoring and evaluation, organization, coordination, financing, and finally, the plan's validity, review, and update.
Additionally, the tender for the urban public transport service for travelers within the municipality of Baena was declared void. It was clarified that the service will continue to be provided by the current company until a new contract is awarded. The plenary session also approved modifications to article 22 of the current collective agreement for municipal personnel and a credit modification expediente for 42,400 euros.
