The council, in coordination with the concessionaire company Hidralia, has implemented an investment and maintenance plan for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) to ensure maximum efficiency and sustainability. These actions have led to the facilities operating optimally, strictly adhering to the six environmental quality parameters mandated by regulations.
Technical analyses confirm compliance with legal limits for chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), suspended solids (SS), total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), and ammonia. This quality control has enabled the ratification of the discharge permit, originally based in 2019.
Investments have focused on occupational safety, the transition to clean energy, and digitalization. The biological treatment has been renovated, and electrical and instrumentation areas improved. Hidralia has also carried out work to ensure worker safety.
In terms of energy efficiency, lighting has been modernized to LED technology, a photovoltaic solar plant has been installed, and the intelligent technological system Createch has been implemented. The City Council has funded a new pressure group for industrial water.
These initiatives, combining municipal public funds with investments from operating companies, consolidate a key infrastructure for local development, ensuring a modern water treatment service that is safe for professionals and fully aligned with current environmental demands.
Furthermore, the Junta de Andalucía will complete the definitive upgrade of the treatment plant in a few weeks with an expansion valued at nearly 8 million euros, addressing a long-standing demand in the city.
