This corner of northern Córdoba, characterized by its whitewashed facades and welcoming squares, offers a serene experience. Just over an hour from the capital, its architectural legacy, featuring the imposing Church of San Juan, known as the Cathedral of the Sierra, is a prominent point of interest.
The Church of San Juan, declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1981 and a Site of Cultural Interest, is a stone colossus that blends Gothic, ogival, and Plateresque styles. Its construction began in the 15th century, with significant contributions from Hernán Ruiz El Viejo and his son Hernán Ruiz El Joven during the 16th century.
Another local treasure is the Hermitage of the Virgen del Castillo, located in the Cathedral Square. Its dressing room, with a Baroque vault in Rococo style, stands out for its polychrome plasterwork and tile work, housing the image of the Virgen del Castillo.
In addition to its cultural richness, Hinojosa del Duque is part of the Los Pedroches Starlight Reserve, a recognition of the quality of its night skies. A total of 17 towns in the region are part of this initiative, allowing visitors to enjoy stargazing in environments with minimal light pollution. The area of Fuente La Zarza, about 14 kilometers from the town, is a privileged spot for this activity, featuring facilities that promote astronomical tourism and birdwatching.
