The general secretary of the PSOE of Almería, José María Martín, announced the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the five socialist councilors who voted in favor of tabling the motion by non-attached councilor Felipe Cayuela to annul the El Algarrobico hotel's license. According to Martín, the councilors disobeyed the directive set by the party, which required voting in favor of nullification.
Martín reiterated the party's stance in favor of the hotel's demolition, calling the license annulment a judicially essential step. "The annulment of the hotel's license is a prior judicial requirement for its demolition. All court rulings must be complied with, and the hotel must be demolished," stated the socialist leader.
The general secretary explained that the provincial instruction was to vote in favor of nullifying the urban planning license. "The PSOE's vote in the held plenary session should have been in favor of that annulment, as was communicated to the leadership and the municipal group," he noted. Due to the non-compliance, the party has decided to act, reminding that councilors are subject to voting discipline.
Martín rejected the justification of gathering prior economic reports, offered by the municipal spokesperson, José Luis Amérigo. "What was being decided today was solely to approve the declaration of nullity of a building permit," he specified, assuring that his party will not support "any action that hinders, delays, or causes further postponement of that demolition."
Finally, the socialist leader insisted that the hotel's demolition, after more than two decades of legal disputes, cannot suffer further delays. "The demolition admits not a single more delay after two decades of court battles. The sooner it is demolished, the better. And if it were tomorrow, even better," he concluded.
