An analysis of queries made on Google over the past year in Spain, using the Google Trends tool, has revealed that Mojácar stands out as the most popular tourist destination in the province of Almería. This municipality not only tops the list but also maintains a significant lead over other locations, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Following Mojácar, a group of municipalities such as Vera, Garrucha, and Carboneras also register a considerable volume of searches. Vera is notable for its stability throughout the year, driven by both tourism and residential interest. Garrucha maintains its appeal due to its gastronomy and port, while Carboneras concentrates interest on specific enclaves like the Playa de los Muertos (Beach of the Dead).
At the same level of interest is San José, one of the main tourist hubs of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, as well as the park itself, which generates constant queries, especially related to its beaches. Unlike Mojácar, in the Cabo de Gata area, interest is distributed among several localities such as Agua Amarga, Las Negras, or La Isleta del Moro, because users search for specific beaches or areas rather than the main municipality.
Away from the coast, some inland municipalities also capture interest. Tabernas, known for its desert and cinematic tourism, and Cuevas del Almanzora, for its historical heritage, appear with more moderate but consistent search levels.
The study's methodology was based on comparing search trends in Google Trends, excluding large cities like Almería capital, Roquetas de Mar, or El Ejido to avoid distortions due to their population volume. The data reflects relative trends, not absolute volumes, allowing for precise identification of the towns generating the most interest in the province.
