The intervention, scheduled to last 18 months, is expected to start in September 2026 and conclude in the first quarter of 2028. The project, carried out by Actúa Infraestructuras, S.L., aims to halt the deterioration of the monument, declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), and improve public access.
The project receives 65% funding from the Spanish Government through the 2% Cultural Program, with collaboration from the Ministries of Transport, Housing, and Culture. The primary goal is the preservation of archaeological structures and enhancing the visitor experience.
Improvements will include the creation of a new access point and a parking area on the south side of the complex, connecting to Castillón street. The remains of the wall will be restored and consolidated, and internal pathways will be established to facilitate tours and historical interpretation of the site.
Prior to the main works, a comprehensive study will be conducted to document the conservation status of the structures and analyze the castle's historical transformations. Urban Planning Councilor, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, emphasized that the project will provide an integral approach, ensuring the stability of the preserved walls and towers while respecting the ensemble's authenticity.
Mayor Francisco Salado described the initiative as a "decisive step" in recovering one of the municipality's most emblematic historical spaces. The aim is for Bezmiliana Castle to become a cultural, heritage, educational, and tourist resource, enhancing its landscape and urban integration with the addition of a green area.
The awarded company has offered an extended warranty period of three and a half years. The intervention has the favorable authorization from the Provincial Commission of Historical Heritage of the Junta de Andalucía and is part of Rincón de la Victoria's Historical Heritage Master Plan.
Castillo de Bezmiliana, situated atop the Castillón hill, offers commanding views of the coastline and is cataloged as a Monument under the Site of Cultural Interest designation. Its recovery aims to bolster its cultural and tourist offerings in the town.
