The fire, which started on Thursday, is unfolding in a rugged enclave of Levante almeriense, an area that has become a challenge for firefighters and emergency services due to its complex topography. Despite its proximity to the A-7 motorway and the national road 340, the blaze is spreading through mountains with uncontrolled flames.
The terrain's orography, characterized by the mountains of the Sierra de Bédar and the Sierra de la Alcornía, combined with the dry Mediterranean climate of the Almería province, facilitates the rapid spread of the fire. Small regional roads connecting hamlets like El Pinar or Bédar further complicate access for firefighting efforts.
The affected area is of significant tourist value, featuring numerous rural houses and campsites that host hundreds of people, especially during the summer months. Nearby municipalities such as Turre (less than 8 kilometers away) and Mojácar (11 kilometers away) are in the vicinity, increasing concerns for the safety of residents and visitors.
The fire has already claimed at least 11 human lives, according to the information provided. Places of geological interest and trails such as the Cañón Fluvial de Alfaix, the Sierra de Cabrera-Bédar, and routes like 'Minero Los Gallardos' or 'Molinos Harineros' are within the fire's influence.
