An intense night of seismic activity occurred in the Levante Almeriense on Thursday night. The first tremor was recorded at 20:53, with a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter Scale and its epicenter in the municipality of Zurgena. The earthquake, originating at a depth of only 4 kilometers, was felt in numerous surrounding towns, including Carboneras, Lorca (Murcia), Garrucha, Lubrín, and Cuevas del Almanzora.
This main event was followed by a total of ten aftershocks, all centered in the same area and of lesser intensity. Between 20:54 and 23:35 hours, these seismic movements occurred, with magnitudes ranging from 2.8 degrees for an earthquake centered in Cuevas del Almanzora to 1.5 degrees for two other tremors in the same municipality.
Cuevas del Almanzora was the municipality that registered the highest seismic activity, being the epicenter for seven of the eleven earthquakes recorded by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) during the day.
Additionally, the province of Almería recorded one more earthquake in Tabernas at 21:55 hours, with a magnitude of 1.7 degrees and a depth of only 2 kilometers, bringing the total number of seismic events in the region to twelve.
