The Government Delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, insisted this Wednesday on the Executive's position under Pedro Sánchez to move forward with the demolition of the hotel in El Algarrobico. This statement comes despite five socialist councilors supporting a postponement in the Carboneras Town Hall plenary session regarding the annulment of the property's building license, a necessary prior step for its demolition.
Fernández, speaking to the press in Seville, admitted to not knowing the specific details behind the socialist councilors' decision. They joined a request from a non-attached councilor to delay the vote intended to comply with the judicial mandate from the TSJA. However, the delegate emphasized the «absolute firmness» with which the Government and the PSOE support the nullification of the license granted to Azata del Sol in January 2003, which was issued under a PSOE administration at the Town Hall.
The plenary agreement aimed to comply with court rulings mandating the official review of the municipal permit that allowed construction on protected land within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. «The demolition must happen, and it must happen now, as soon as possible, so that we can finally erase from our image this urban planning outrage, this true assault on the environmental heritage of such a representative space on our coasts as Cabo de Gata», stated Fernández.
The delegate's remarks were made just over an hour and a half before the PSOE announced, through its provincial secretary in Almería, José María Martín, the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against the five implicated socialist councilors. Martín stated that «the directives provided by the party's bodies were not respected», asserting that the PSOE's position on El Algarrobico is «unequivocal» and involves adhering to judicial resolutions requiring the Carboneras Town Hall to expressly annul the municipal license.
