The popular Fuente de la Estrella, situated on the emblematic Paseo de la Constitución in Baeza, now shines in all its splendor following the restoration carried out over recent months. This action underscores the firm commitment of the Baeza City Council to the conservation and enhancement of its historical heritage.
In a few days, citizens will be able to closely admire the results of the work, which coincides with the inauguration of the rehabilitation of the Paseo de la Constitución itself. The prestigious restorer Teresa López-Obregón Silvestre has directed and executed this intervention on one of the most cherished heritage elements by the residents.
Ignacio Montoro, the Heritage councilor, detailed that the project was entirely financed with the Baeza City Council's own funds, amounting to a total investment of 72,355.54 euros. "The conservation of our heritage is a priority for this governing team, as it represents a legacy we must preserve for future generations," he stated.
One of the most significant aspects of the restoration is the recovery of the fountain's original functionality. After the intervention, water will once again flow from the mouths of the tritons, which required a complete overhaul of the water supply and drainage systems.
Among the restoration tasks performed, notable is the removal of iron staples and pins from the upper ashlar stones, which were causing fractures in the stone. Metal elements from old installations were also removed, the stone surface was cleaned, and the weathered ashlar stones were consolidated, restoring the original water outlet system through the tritons' mouths.
Through this initiative, the Baeza City Council reaffirms its commitment to the restoration and care of the city's historical-artistic heritage, promoting projects that preserve its identity and enhance the cultural and tourist appeal of this World Heritage municipality.
