Civil Guard agents have confiscated a total of 622 kilograms of red tuna in Barbate, after they were illegally fished and transported without proper documentation or sanitary controls. The operation occurred during a vehicle control operation.
The incident took place on the 30th, when a patrol from the Barbate Civil Guard post, in collaboration with the Algeciras Command, identified a passenger car. Upon uncovering a tarp covering the load, officers discovered four large red tuna.
It was observed that the merchandise was being transported in a vehicle not equipped for perishable products, thus failing to meet sanitary and public health guarantees. Consequently, the Seprona (Nature Protection Service) was called to the scene.
Seprona agents verified the lack of sanitary and traceability measures. The four tuna, weighing a total of 622 kilos, lacked documentation proving their legal origin. The Civil Guard proceeded to seize them and transfer them to an authorized company for destruction.
As a result, corresponding complaints were filed under Law 1/2002 and Decree 145/2018, which regulate maritime fishing and the marketing of fishery products in Andalusia.
