The mayor of Barbate, Miguel Molina, has formally requested the regional administration to “urgently expedite the procedures to initiate the urbanization works of El Jarillo”. This strategic action has over 6.2 million euros allocated in the Junta's budgets.

The project includes the construction of a total of 304 homes, of which 201 will be public housing and the remaining 103 will be free market. The mayor recalled that the Junta publicly announced in October 2025 that the tender for the works would take place during the first half of 2026, after the urbanization project was approved in January of that same year.

Molina emphasized the “high demand for housing in the municipality” and highlighted that the City Council has been promoting urban planning modifications and project approval for years. Therefore, he considers it “essential” for the Junta to expedite administrative procedures to avoid further delays.

The mayor warned about the need to immediately put the works out to tender, as the administrative procedure can take several months. “Barbate urgently needs these homes. Many families are struggling due to the difficulty of accessing housing or finding year-round rentals,” he stated.

The action will not only facilitate the construction of new homes but also complete the urbanization of the entire area. This will improve connectivity and access to educational facilities such as IES Torre del Tajo and IES Vicente Aleixandre, as well as various neighboring neighborhoods, which will be fully integrated into the urbanized land.

Molina insisted that the City Council will continue to defend this project “as an absolute priority for Barbate”.
