The Area Councilor, Juan Fernández Olmo (PP), explained that the initiative aims to acknowledge the valuable contribution of centenarians to the municipality's development throughout their lives, both professionally and through their daily involvement in the community. The ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
The department has launched an active search for individuals who meet the criteria: being 100 years old or older by 2026. Fernández Olmo emphasized that the purpose is to “assert the longevity of our elders and distinguish them for their participation and involvement in local life and the growth of the municipality at its different levels.”
“"From the Vélez-Málaga City Council, we call upon those citizens who will turn 100 in 2026 or have already reached their centenary, to contact the municipal authorities, so that they can be considered for the tribute gala celebration. We have prepared numerous surprises for them to enjoy an unforgettable evening."
The evening on May 29 promises “many surprises” and will feature musical performances by municipal workshop instructors: Sergio Pérez “Cindindi”, Beatriz Muñoz, and Manuel Rodríguez.
To facilitate the identification of those to be honored, the Department for the Elderly has provided contact phone numbers 952549449 and 952540294, as well as the email address centromayores@velezmalaga.es. Residents who meet the conditions are encouraged to get in touch to ensure their well-deserved recognition at this special event.
