The bathing season along the Vélez coastline begins this Monday, June 1, and will extend throughout the summer. The service, presented in Torre del Mar, aims to enhance the safety, prevention, and accessibility of the municipality's beaches.

The lifeguard service hours will be from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. During the peak months of July and August, special reinforcements will be implemented starting at 10:30 AM, deploying approximately 49 lifeguards simultaneously across the entire coastline.

First Deputy Mayor, Jesús Pérez Atencia, highlighted the coast's importance as an economic driver for Vélez-Málaga year-round. The operation includes 19 fixed watchtowers and 9 reinforcement points, covering key areas such as Chilches, Estación de Benajarafe, the vicinity of the Puntarena beach bar, and the naturist beach of Almayate.

Special attention will be given to high-traffic areas like the Benajarafe promenade and the Río Seco area. The Councilor for Beaches, David Vilches, detailed that the service is organized in phases, with additional increases on weekends with higher bather presence.

Material resources include an ambulance, two all-terrain vehicles, two semi-rigid boats, two rescue jet skis, and updated medical supplies. Furthermore, the use of drones for surveillance and rescue is consolidated, and the six beaches adapted for people with reduced mobility, including amphibious chairs and specialized support staff, are maintained.

The canine lifeguard service will continue at the dog-friendly beach in Torre del Mar. Authorities have urged bathers to act responsibly, respecting lifeguards' instructions and supervising children closely.
