The decision, deemed unilateral by the local government, has been communicated to the Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, in a letter that reiterates the disagreement previously expressed to the executive president of Correos, Pedro Saura.
In his correspondence, Mayor Salado emphasizes the significant impact this closure will have on residents, noting that the office has served the community for decades. He describes the measure as detrimental to public service and urges the minister's intervention to prevent harm to the municipality.
The City Council had requested an urgent meeting with Correos' management to discuss the matter but has yet to receive a response. The administration stresses the necessity of expediting this meeting, which is considered crucial for addressing citizens' needs.
“"We are the administration closest to the citizens, and these types of decisions cause great harm to the residents of Rincón de la Victoria. We expect a response from Correos."
The State Postal and Telegraph Society (Sociedad Estatal de Correos y Telégrafos) officially notified the City Council on June 15 of its unilateral decision to close the office on June 30 and vacate the premises by September 30. The letter to the minister was sent on Monday, June 22, following the correspondence to the executive president last Friday.
