The project, boasting a budget of over 40 million euros, will be built on a 55,000 square meter plot, initially featuring around 10,000 square meters of constructed area with expansion possibilities. The construction work has been awarded to Ferrovial Construcción.
The new healthcare center, unveiled at an institutional event at the Vélez-Málaga City Hall, aims to address the healthcare needs of the Axarquía region. According to the CEO of HM Hospitales, Alejandro Abarca, the hospital will provide high-complexity medicine and cutting-edge technology, creating 250 jobs once fully operational.
The hospital will feature 50 consultation rooms, six operating theaters, over 60 patient rooms, a medical-surgical Day Hospital, an Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU), adult and pediatric emergency services, and a wide range of specialties. It will also include an Imaging Diagnostics area equipped with a CT scanner, MRI, and mammography, among other services.
It is estimated that the center will annually handle approximately 250,000 consultations, 5,000 surgeries, and 30,000 emergencies. The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, highlighted the project as "magnificent news" that will improve residents' quality of life and complement existing healthcare services.
HM Hospitales already operates a healthcare network in the province of Málaga, including HM Málaga Hospital, HM Santa Elena International Hospital, HM Gálvez, and the HM El Palo Polyclinic. In addition to the future hospital in Vélez-Málaga, the group plans to build the HM Mar de Alborán Hospital in the city of Málaga.
