Observatories of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in Andalusia recorded temperatures above 39ºC in eight locations this Sunday. Two municipalities in Jaén, Bailén and Andújar, were among the hottest in the autonomous community, reaching 39.2ºC and 39ºC, according to the agency's spokesperson, José Luis Camacho.
In the province of Jaén, temperature peaks were generally reached between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. In Bailén and Andújar, thermometers registered 38.6ºC and 38.5ºC at 6:00 PM. In Linares and Baeza, the maximums were 36.4ºC at the same time, while in Villanueva del Arzobispo, 36.3ºC were recorded at 8:00 PM.
The maximum temperature across all of Andalusia was recorded in the Cordoban municipality of Montoro, with 39.9ºC. This was followed by Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville) and La Rambla (Córdoba) with 39.6ºC, and Córdoba Airport with 39.4ºC. Bailén stood at 39.2ºC, followed by Córdoba and Prágdena with 39.1ºC, and Andújar and Écija (Seville) with 39ºC.
Nighttime minimum temperatures remain high, especially near the Mediterranean coast due to sea water temperature. In Cabo de Gata (Almería), the minimum did not drop below 28.7ºC.
Regarding wind gusts, the highest values were recorded on the peaks of Sierra Nevada (91.8 km/h) and at Cabo de Gata (74.9 km/h).
Aemet maintains high temperature alerts for the province of Jaén for the start of the week. On Monday, the risk is orange in the Valle del Guadalquivir, Sierra Morena, and El Condado, with maximums of up to 40ºC. In the sierras of Cazorla and Segura, 38ºC are expected. There are also yellow alerts for storms with hail and strong gusts throughout the province.
For Tuesday, similar high temperature warnings are forecast, with peaks of up to 40ºC in Cazorla and Segura, and 38ºC in the southern part of the province.
