The family business has been distinguished in the sixth edition of these awards, which aim to highlight the role of Andalusian families in various social, cultural, educational, and business spheres. This recognition underscores the continuity of a trade passed down from generation to generation, keeping alive one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the region.
The Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality has emphasized the “great artisanal tradition” of this family of stonemasons, who have dedicated five generations to working with natural stone. The awards, granted by the Andalusian Government, consist of an identifying sculpture from the General Secretariat for Families and an accredited diploma explicitly mentioning the merits of the awardees.
“"Families are the great strength and a fundamental pillar of Andalusia. It is important to recognize them, make them visible, and thank them for everything they contribute every day to Andalusian society."
The distinction granted to the Porcuna stonemasonry aligns with the efforts of regional administrations to strengthen the recognition of the family business fabric and the artisanal and cultural sectors. The Popular Party, in its electoral program, defends the family business as a “strategic pillar of the Andalusian economy,” especially in rural areas, due to its capacity to generate employment and foster roots.
In addition to the Jaén company, the Andalusian Families Awards have recognized other entities and individuals from various Andalusian provinces this year in categories such as solidarity, work-life balance, diversity, research, and education. Among the awardees are the Asociación En Familia Por Derecho de Almería, the Order of San Juan de Dios, the Municipal School of Music and Dance of Priego de Córdoba, and the City Council of Granada.
