Last Sunday, the Darymelia Theater in Jaén hosted an emotional concert by the Jaén Municipal Band. The performance was part of the commemorative activities for the musical group's 125th anniversary, spanning from 1901 to 2026, and was entirely dedicated to the work of the distinguished Alicante-born composer Ruperto Chapí.
Under the baton of Juany Martínez-de la Hoz Casas, the band delighted the audience with a carefully selected repertoire honoring Chapí, recognized as a key figure in the history of Spanish zarzuela. The concert began with the prelude to El tambor de granaderos, a piece that immediately showcased the technical prowess of the Jaén ensemble.
Attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a varied selection that included excerpts from La bruja and the pasacalles from Las hijas del Zebedeo. The program continued with the jota from La cuna and the pasodoble from El puñao de rosas, culminating with the performance of the Gran fantasía de La revoltosa, one of Chapí's most emblematic and demanding compositions.
The performance was met with a warm ovation from the attending public, in an event that highlighted the national lyrical heritage and the trajectory of the Jaén Municipal Band in its 125th anniversary.
