The project for Jaén's former water park, a site that lay unused for years, is now taking shape with renewed institutional and business momentum. This development promises to transform the area, with the final design of the Eco Active Resort expected to be unveiled in a few weeks.
The mayor of Jaén, Julio Millán, informed residents of the Valdeastillas neighborhood about the application submitted to the City Council to develop a glamping-based tourist complex on these disused lands. The announcement was made during the closing of the neighborhood association's assembly, held at the request of its board of directors.
The initiative, driven by a provincial business group based in Bailén, envisions the creation of the “Eco Active Resort”, a sustainable tourist complex that will combine nature, leisure, and quality accommodation. The project is supported by local investors and designed by LBA Arquitectos, who have already shown some glimpses of the proposal to the residents.
“"We are aware of the neighborhood's concern about the abandonment of these lands, but also of the potential this project has to generate employment and revitalize the neighborhood."
The complex, which will occupy over 65,000 square meters under a concession, will include bungalows, an RV area, event spaces, multi-adventure zones, swimming pools (some with restricted access), glamping areas, sports facilities, and year-round services such as catering and educational activities. An estimated investment of 2.5 million euros is expected to generate around 28 direct and over 30 indirect jobs.
“"Overall, we are happy to see life being brought back to this space that had been abandoned for years."
Once the application is formally registered, the City Council will publish the concession on the contractor's profile before the end of the first half of the year. This will open the bidding process to any interested company. If the successful bidder is not the initial promoter, they will be responsible for the project's drafting costs, while the Consistory will receive a fee for the use of the land.
