The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) had issued a yellow alert for rain and storms from 1:00 PM, anticipating the adverse conditions that materialized in the region. Most of the alerts were concentrated in the Jaén capital, where emergency teams responded to numerous floods in homes, basements, and terraces due to the large amount of water that fell in a short period.
Among the most notable impacts, the La Salobreja pavilion was rendered unusable due to water ingress. The municipality of Torredelcampo also experienced similar incidents, requiring the intervention of emergency services to manage the problems caused by the rains.
The most serious incident was reported in Arjona, where the overflowing of the Salado stream forced the closure of the JA-3404 road, which connects this town with Lahiguera. This measure was taken for safety reasons due to the high water level of the stream and will remain in effect until conditions allow for traffic to be restored.
AEMET's forecasts indicated accumulated rainfall of up to 15 mm in one hour for the areas of the Capital, Montes de Jaén, Cazorla, and Segura. Given the persistence of these conditions, citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid flood-prone areas or riverbeds.
