From Wednesday to Friday, the UAL has welcomed close to 3,000 new undergraduate students, completing preparations for the 2026/2027 academic year, with classes set to begin next Monday. The official opening will take place on Friday, September 18th.
The seven faculties (Law, Health Sciences, Psychology, Experimental Sciences, Economic and Business Sciences, Education and Humanities) and the Higher School of Engineering have organized specific presentation events for their newly admitted students, primarily first-year students.
The new intake offer at the UAL was for 2,985 places, with a current occupancy of 97% as the enrollment process remains open. 53% of enrolled students are women and 47% are men. Full occupancy is expected.
New students attended events in the Auditorium, the Paraninfo, and the Paraninfo's Degree Hall. Each center supplemented these welcomes with activities on their premises, introducing services such as Sports and the Language Center to provide a comprehensive overview of university life.
The Faculty of Education, led by its dean Manuel Rodríguez, welcomed over 600 students in its degrees of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (CAFD), Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Social Education, and the Double Degree in Early Childhood and Primary Education. Rodríguez highlighted the enthusiasm and commitment to quality education, as well as the fully equipped teaching laboratories to enhance practical training.
The Faculty of Psychology, with its dean Mercedes Fernández, positively assessed the reception of new students in Psychology, Social Work, and the new Speech Therapy degree. Videos were shown with academic advice and to familiarize students with the faculty, who conveyed their enthusiasm. The Vice-Rectorate for Students and the Virtual Teaching Unit provided keys for technological integration and practical challenges.
The Higher School of Engineering begins the academic year with 568 new students across its seven degrees and the Double Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Electronic Engineering and Automation. Its director, Rosa Ayala, highlighted the new Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, enrolling 39 students. Bridging Courses and mentorship programs with 'student mentors' are being launched. Established activities like the Michelin Awards and the Ada Byron Competition continue.
The Faculty of Law organized a dynamic meeting to facilitate the integration of first-year students. Dean Fátima Pérez Ferrer, along with coordinators and university service representatives, provided information on studies and opportunities. The commitment to quality education and close student support was emphasized.
Economic and Business Sciences presented its course start to 550 undergraduate students, providing information on university life and the use of the Virtual Classroom. Dean Eva Carmona detailed the leveling courses in Mathematics and Statistics, the academic support network, and the Mentoring Program. The Welcome Guide is available on the Faculty's website.
The Faculty of Health Sciences welcomes 259 new students and introduces a new curriculum in Physiotherapy, enhancing areas such as pediatric neurology and oncological physiotherapy. The Nursing and Medicine degrees received 11,105 applications. Dean Pablo Román noted the high demand, admission cut-off scores (between 11.68 and 12.17), and employability, along with a strong practical orientation and active teaching methodologies like clinical simulation.
The Faculty of Humanities welcomed its new students, emphasizing the variety of degrees and double degrees updated with technology. Dean Rafael Quirosa-Cheyrouze highlighted the focus on research from the training stage, scholarships from the Chair of Democratic Memory, and close interaction with varied practical experiences and an active cultural agenda.
The Faculty of Experimental Sciences concludes the first cohort of the Double Degree in Economics and Mathematics and begins the second year of the Degree in Physics, an interuniversity program with the University of Huelva. Dean Juan José Moreno recalled the high demand for its degrees and the continuation of activities such as Scientific Fridays and the Experimental Sciences Symposium. Leveling courses in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are offered.
