The Jaén-based club, known as the “lizard team,” has formally presented its allegations through the proper channels, aiming for the caution to be withdrawn. The referee's decision that led to Martos's expulsion has sparked controversy, particularly due to the sequence of events in last Saturday's match.
According to reports, Mario Martos received his first caution in the 77th minute for protesting. Just three minutes later, referee Javier Guillán showed him a second yellow after a tackle on Juani. This action was strongly disputed by Real Jaén players, who argued that Martos touched the ball before being fouled by his opponent.
Coach Manolo Herrero had already anticipated in the post-match press conference that the club would file an appeal, expressing his dissatisfaction with the referee's decision that left the team at a numerical disadvantage.
Furthermore, Herrero criticized the lack of a caution for Atlético Malagueño's center-back, Alfonso, for an action that resulted in a penalty against Siverio just before halftime. A second yellow for Alfonso would have left the Málaga reserve team with ten players in the second half, significantly altering the match's dynamics.
The Real Jaén board is confident that the match footage, provided as evidence, will support their appeal and allow Mario Martos to participate in the important Matchday 31 clash of Segunda Federación, Group IV, against La Unión Atlético, scheduled for this Sunday at the Nuevo Estadio Municipal de La Victoria.
