Jaén-born boxer Carmen González is preparing for a significant event this Saturday at the Nuevo Estadio Municipal de La Victoria, where she will compete in her second professional bout. This event marks her home debut, just two months after her initial victory against Hungary's Petra Mezei in Córdoba.
González, known as ‘The Soul’, describes the event as a "second debut," emphasizing the importance of fighting in front of her home crowd. "It's special because I'm fighting at home and with my people," she stated. Her coach, Raúl Buendía, highlighted the fight's significance in maintaining the competitive level achieved in amateur boxing, with "high sights and objectives."
After a successful four-year amateur career, including time with the national team, González decided to restructure her career and personal life. "I reached my personal peak in amateur boxing and wanted to restructure my sporting career and my life," she explained, detailing her return to Jaén and her original gym to fulfill her dream of debuting as a professional.
“"I'm taking it as a second debut. I wanted it to be six rounds, and in the end, it was four in Córdoba. Now we've had more time for preparation, and it's special because I'm fighting at home and with my people."
Her opponent will be Romania's Rebecca Nagy in a six-round bout. "We don't know much about my opponent technically or tactically. We know she's an offensive rival, like my debut opponent was," commented González. "I've worked on everything, but I don't know what to expect. I think it will be a counter-attacking fight, which is where I'm a good boxer. If she slows down, I'll go after her, which is the spectacular part of boxing," she added.
This second professional encounter solidifies the boxer's new phase, whose main motivation is to "aim for national, European, and world titles." Tonight's event represents a crucial step towards those goals.
