The fortress, considered one of the most significant in Europe, will benefit from a state subsidy exceeding one million euros aimed at reinforcing its architectural elements. This intervention is crucial to prevent the collapse of parts of the structure, which suffered severe damage from storms last winter.
The aid is part of a global subsidy of 1,889,000 euros granted to the Ayuntamiento de Baños de la Encina. The primary objective is the repair, restitution, reconstruction, and improvement of municipal infrastructures and services affected by adverse weather phenomena during the first quarter of the year.
In addition to the works on the emblematic castle, the project includes improvements to various streets in the municipality, work in the vicinity of Laredo del Perdón, and the rehabilitation of public buildings and facilities such as the auditorium, swimming pool, and municipal pavilion.
“"One of the most significant investments dedicated to recovering from damage caused by adverse weather phenomena in the first quarter of the year, which will allow the City Council to undertake priority actions in various parts of the municipality."
These subsidies are channeled through Royal Decree-Law 5/2026, which implements urgent measures to mitigate damage caused by storms in Andalusia and Extremadura. In the province of Jaén, the Ministry of Territorial Policy will advance 400 million euros to finance 100% of the reconstruction of damaged infrastructures in 94 municipalities, with over 2,500 planned actions over three years.
One of the program's novelties is that municipalities will receive a 100% advance of the subsidy to avoid compromising their treasury. Furthermore, the inclusion of prevention works aimed at increasing the resilience of municipalities against future storms is permitted.
