An attempted theft disturbed the peace at the Jaén Book Fair in the early hours of Sunday morning. The person in charge of one of the exhibitor stalls discovered upon arrival that the door had been forced open, showing clear signs of tampering with the lock.
After the initial shock, a check of the stall's interior revealed that most of the material was in order. Fortunately, no books were missing; the only items taken were a mobile phone charger and the card reader charger that the exhibitor had left on a shelf. A detailed count of the books is expected to confirm no further losses.
“"This is the first time something like this has happened. In any case, it's a relief that the attempted theft amounted to practically nothing, which confirms that the Fair's protocols are working well."
Francisco González, who is also the organizer of the 39th Book Fair, lamented the incident but highlighted the general relief that the intruder's haul was so small. He recalled that the organization advises all exhibitors not to leave cash in their stalls and to remove daily takings, advice that is scrupulously followed by everyone.
