The reopening of this tunnel, announced by Minister Óscar Puente, significantly reduces traffic restrictions. The interventions, which also affected the La Cerradura tunnel, have halved the impact on traffic flow.
This measure offers relief to thousands of drivers who have experienced long delays for weeks, particularly during the summer holiday season when the A-44 sees high vehicle volume towards the coasts of Granada and Málaga.
The works, initially scheduled for completion before June 30th, have extended beyond the planned timeline, creating uncertainty about the exact conclusion date, according to government sub-delegation sources in early August.
The completed works included the installation of new safety features, improved lighting and signage, as well as actions on the tunnel's lining and waterproofing.
Despite the reopening of the La Miel tunnel, speed restrictions remain in place around the La Cerradura tunnel, where adaptation works are still ongoing.
