High temperatures and strong winds have put the Plan Infoca to the test this weekend, requiring its operators to intervene in up to six forest fires spread across five Andalusian provinces: Huelva (with two outbreaks), Córdoba, Granada, Seville, and Jaén.
In Granada, the Andalusian Forest Fire Extinction Service continues to work on stabilizing the fire declared at Cortijo Moyano in Játar, which started at 3:00 PM and is not yet under control. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to control other blazes that remain stabilized in the La Sierrezuela area in Adamuz (Córdoba) and in Almadén de la Plata (Seville).
Other fires that are still ongoing and pending extinction are located in Almonte (Huelva) and in the Mining Basin of Huelva, in addition to another declared in Pizarra (Málaga). The simultaneity of these outbreaks led to the activation of the pre-emergency phase, operational situation 0, of Plan Infoca, which remains active.
Fires that are stabilized but still awaiting control are located in the compensation zone of Melonares de Almadén de la Plata (Seville), stabilized around 5:40 PM, and in the La Sierrezuela area of Adamuz (Córdoba), stabilized at 5:20 PM.
Three fires are close to being extinguished: one in an area of the municipality of Pizarra (Málaga), controlled at 4:04 PM; another in Almonte (Huelva), controlled at 4:10 PM; and a third in the Mining Basin of Huelva.
Additionally, in Málaga, a forest fire declared last Thursday in the Canillas de Aceituno area has been declared extinguished.
“"caution, awareness, and citizen responsibility"
Given the widespread increase in temperatures across the Andalusian community, the acting Minister of Health, Presidency, and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, called for "caution, awareness, and citizen responsibility" regarding fires.
