The maritime connections linking Huelva with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Tenerife-Lanzarote registered a total of 16,604 passengers in the first five months of the year. This figure is lower than the 17,272 passengers counted in the same period last year.
Vehicle transport also experienced a decline, estimated at 2.48%. A total of 10,347 vehicles were transported by May this year, compared to 10,610 recorded in the same timeframe in 2025.
This marks the second consecutive month, since the second quarter of 2025, to show negative figures for this service. The downward trend began progressively in April 2024, following the decision by shipping company Armas to move its services to the port of Cádiz.
Despite the general trend, a slight recovery is noted compared to April, when the negative difference from the previous year exceeded 7.8%.
Currently, the only operational line is the one launched in October 2018 by shipping companies Fred Olsen Express and Baleària, through their alliance Canary Bridge Seaways (CBS). This triangular route connects the ports of Huelva, La Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
In both the summer of 2024 and the previous year, these shipping companies reinforced connections, adding an extra departure to the usual three, to meet summer demand for both passengers and rolling cargo transport between the Peninsula and the Canary Islands.
These lines were declared of public interest by the Council of Ministers in February 2022, establishing Public Service Obligations that include maintaining a minimum frequency of one weekly trip on each route.
