The Guardia Civil has released images of a large operation deployed in Ayamonte and Isla Cristina, Huelva, to combat logistical support for drug trafficking. The operation, named OCEAN IX, focused on the Carreras river and the Guadiana river, aiming to inspect fishing and recreational boats that could be used by drug trafficking organizations.
As a result, officers seized eleven recreational boats for non-compliance with nautical regulations. During preventive checks, 76 individuals were identified, nine administrative infractions were recorded, and one arrest was made on a judicial warrant. The seized vessels were placed at the disposal of the competent authority.
The deployment took place throughout much of Wednesday afternoon in various locations within both municipalities, with a particular focus on the Carreras estuary and the Guadiana river, key areas for monitoring 'petaqueo' and other support activities for 'narcolanchas' (drug trafficking speedboats).
The Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, explained that these actions are part of the Guardia Civil's regular boat inspections, aimed at verifying compliance with navigation regulations and identifying any elements potentially linked to supporting drug trafficking networks.
This marks the ninth operation of its kind in the province, designed to enhance security and disrupt the logistical infrastructure of drug trafficking networks along the Huelva coast. Various specialized units of the Guardia Civil participated in the operation.
