The piece, which has a 185-year history since its premiere at the Paris Opera, is part of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance program. The production is directed by Aivars Leimanis, who has led the Latvian company since 1993.
The plot is divided into two distinct acts. The first focuses on the protagonist's earthly story and her relationship with a nobleman, while the second explores a dark and ethereal world inspired by legends of the willis. The original music was composed by Adolphe Adam, with a libretto integrating influences from authors such as Victor Hugo and Heinrich Heine.
The Latvian company, which celebrated its centenary in 2022, maintains a strong connection to the tradition of classical ballet. This production allows local audiences to enjoy one of the most demanding and recognized works in the global academic repertoire.
