The annual celebration of the Day of the Institute of the Royal Academies of Andalusia serves as a reflection of the identity of these cultural institutions. Each edition, held in a different locality, aims to harmonize the programs and objectives of the Royal Academies, which enjoy the high patronage of the King of Spain.
This gathering is conceived as a space where the mastery of forms combines with elegance in dialogue, promoting fair measure and corporate solvency among academics. It is a forum for internal reflection and external observation, focused on training and information without selective mechanisms.
Last Saturday, the event took place in Granada. The city's mayor, Marifrán Carazo Villalonga, delivered the greeting. The presidency was held by the new president of the Institute, José Escalante Jiménez; the president of the Academy of Mathematical, Physicochemical and Natural Sciences of Granada, Francisco González Lodeiro; and the general director of Research Planning of the Ministry of University, Research and Innovation of the Junta de Andalucía, Loreto del Valle Cebada.
During the day, the Institute's Medal of Honor was awarded to Ramón Gutiérrez Jáimez, and the emeritus professor of the University of Granada, Eduardo Battaner López, delivered a lecture titled Science in the Spanish Empire.
Representatives from academies such as the Royal Academy of San Romualdo in San Fernando and the Royal Academy of San Dionisio in Jerez de la Frontera highlighted the importance of this annual call to share concerns and seek solutions, as well as to strengthen the presence of the Royal Academies in contemporary society, defending solid and humanistic cultural values.
Furthermore, recognition was given to academics for their dedication to universal culture, and the opportunity to discuss difficulties and challenges, seeking support for achieving their objectives. The cordial atmosphere and willingness to collaborate among colleagues from various disciplines were highly valued aspects of this edition.
