High temperatures have prompted thousands of people from Granada to travel to the Costa de Granada this Saturday, leading to significant traffic jams on the A44 highway. Since shortly after 11:15 AM, the motorway has experienced slow traffic in two key sections.
One of the congestion points is located between kilometers 144.4 and 153.2, near El Puntal and Cozvíjar, heading towards Motril. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) reports slow traffic in this area, which was already heavy from early morning.
Additionally, a collision without injuries between two cars occurred in another section of the A44, specifically between kilometers 161.5 and 162.7, within the municipality of Lecrín. This incident has affected traffic flow in the area.
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is implementing special measures to facilitate the return journey on Sundays throughout July and August. Extra lanes will be opened in the direction of Granada on the A-44, between kilometer points 158+500 and 143+520, and between 182+500 and 168+400. The aim is to maintain three lanes of traffic from Motril to the junction with the GR-30 in Otura, easing the return to the capital.
These additional lanes will be operational every Sunday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, although schedules may be adjusted based on traffic conditions. It is anticipated that this Sunday, the World Cup final may influence many drivers to return earlier.
