The management of the Metropolitano de Granada has reported that inspections are underway at the Alcázar de Genil station following the earthquakes that occurred last weekend, particularly during the night of Friday, August 14th, to Saturday, August 15th. Consequently, the station will not be available for people with reduced mobility while this work is carried out.
Service managers have reminded users that the nearest stops are Recogidas and Hípica. Following the successive earthquakes, including a magnitude 5 tremor with its epicenter in Alhendín recorded on Saturday, August 15th, the Junta de Andalucía declared Level 1 seismic emergency. This prompted the Granada Metro to reduce its speed to 30 kilometers per hour along the entire line.
The earthquake, the strongest in the province of Granada in the last 70 years, caused material damage in several areas of the Metropolitan Area, although no injuries were reported. The National Geographic Institute (IGN) registered up to 93 aftershocks, 13 of which were felt by the population.
