The monarch Felipe VI has shown his backing for Andalusia in the face of two severe emergencies affecting the community: a magnitude 5 earthquake registered in the province of Granada and the forest fire declared in Niebla (Huelva), which has already ravaged over 38,000 hectares.
This morning, the King communicated by phone with the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, to learn about the status of both incidents. Moreno thanked the monarch for his words of support, highlighting the affection that the Royal Household always shows towards Andalusia.
Emergency services continue to work in the Niebla fire zone to control the perimeter and prevent the flames from reaching new populated areas. President Moreno reported that the King also conveyed his support to the mayors of the municipalities affected by both catastrophes.
The earthquake in Granada, measuring magnitude 5, has been the strongest seismic event in a series of tremors that have affected the province in recent hours, being felt in several Granada municipalities and other parts of Andalusia. The Junta has confirmed that there have been no personal injuries.
This royal call occurs in a context of high vulnerability for Andalusia, which is facing not only the fire and earthquake but also recent extreme temperatures and, subsequently, severe storms in Málaga and Granada.
