The presentation took place this Tuesday in the courtyard of the Granada City Council, where the artistic proposal for the Day of the Cross 2026 celebration was unveiled. The poster, created by Granadan artist Eduardo Gorlat, known as 'EduArtGranada', offers a contemporary vision of the traditional elements of the festival, with the Manila shawl as the main feature.
The artwork, sponsored by Mahou San Miguel through Cervezas Alhambra, was praised by the mayor of Granada, who thanked the artist and the sponsoring entity for their involvement. The mayor emphasized that the proposal "conveys the joy, color, and vitality of one of the most beloved festivals by Granadans, which, generation after generation, remains deeply rooted".
“"The concept of this work aligns with Cervezas Alhambra's commitment to authorial creation that unites tradition and innovation."
The poster's design places the Manila shawl at its center, organizing the image and referencing one of the most distinctive artisanal expressions of the Day of the Cross. From this element, a botanical and floral arrangement unfolds, forming a pomegranate and, simultaneously, a heart, merging the city's emblem with the shared spirit of the celebration.
The composition incorporates iconic elements of Granada, such as carnations, pomegranates, the scissors with the 'pero', and allusions to Fajalauza ceramics and Nasrid ornamentation. These details are integrated into a modern visual language that maintains a connection to tradition. It also includes references to heritage, such as the Vase of the Gazelles or the key to the Gate of Justice of the Alhambra. The cross, formed by carnations, is integrated into the whole, and beneath the fringes of the shawl, the silhouettes of the Alhambra and the Albaicín are outlined.
During the event, it was also announced that the proclamation for the Day of the Cross, scheduled for May 2, will be delivered by journalist and musician Carlos Marín. A renowned communicator and figure closely associated with the city's cultural life, Marín is a member and promoter of the group Con Dos Cajones and president of Coros y Danzas de Granada.
The program for the Day of the Cross will feature continuous music and dance performances in the Plaza del Carmen on May 2, starting with the Municipal Flamenco School. On May 3, the program will continue in the same venue with new performances. Additionally, the esplanade of the Palacio de Congresos will host a show organized by Radio Olé and sponsored by Cajamar on May 2, featuring various artists and groups.
