The Corpus Fair of Granada will feature a new monumental entrance gate for its 2027 edition. The Almanjáyar fairground will debut a design inspired by the iconic Partal Gardens of the Alhambra, aiming to update one of the city's main festival symbols after nearly a decade.
This project is made possible through a collaboration agreement between the City Council of Granada and the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife. The latter institution will contribute 250,000 euros for the design, drafting, and execution of the new structure, which will preside over the fairground's entrance.
The spokesperson for the local government highlighted that the new gate will provide the fairground with a "new image of great aesthetic and symbolic quality." He emphasized that the gate is "much more than a decorative element," serving as the "gateway to one of the city's most important celebrations" and must reflect the historical legacy and cultural projection of Granada.
The design draws inspiration from the Partal Gardens, one of the most recognizable landscape and architectural ensembles within the Alhambra. The gate is projected to measure approximately 27 meters wide by 17 meters high. The project also includes the use of eco-friendly materials and LED lighting, incorporating sustainability and innovation.
The estimated total cost for the manufacturing, rental, transport, assembly, and dismantling of the gate for next year is around 350,000 euros. The City Council will cover any costs exceeding the Patronato's contribution, allocated from the budget for Citizen Participation and Maintenance.
Appreciation was expressed for the Alhambra Patronato's support in enhancing the Corpus Fair's appeal as "one of the major cultural, social, and tourist events in Andalusia," underscoring the importance of institutional collaboration in projecting Granada's image. The Alhambra is recognized as the primary cultural ambassador, and this agreement demonstrates how heritage can inspire urban development and the strengthening of traditions.
