The seismic movement occurred at 02:15 AM, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN). The epicenter was located in Dílar, five kilometers deep and 16 kilometers from the provincial capital.
This tremor follows two notable earthquakes that occurred last Saturday, August 15 (magnitude 4.8 with epicenter in Alhendín), and Tuesday, August 18 (same magnitude and epicenter in Gójar). These previous seismic events resulted in approximately 3,000 incidents and over 5,000 calls to emergency services.
Seismologists had warned about the possibility of new movements, though not of major magnitude, and indicated that the seismic swarm might be nearing its end. However, it is always emphasized that earthquakes cannot be predicted.
The mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, expressed her desire to "recover normality" and for the seismic episode to "end as soon as possible." She highlighted the importance of remaining calm regarding potential effects on the tourism sector, assuring that hotels and most of Granada's constructions have withstood the tremors well.
