The Regional Government of Andalusia, through the Public Works Agency, has implemented an LED lighting system throughout the Granada Metro infrastructure. This measure, representing an investment of 91,285 euros, is expected to be amortized in approximately a year and a half, generating annual savings of nearly 600 MWh of consumption, equivalent to 62,179 euros.
The new LED lamps not only offer economic benefits but also provide "much more light and facilitate maintenance," according to the administration. The installation focused on the underground stations of Camino de Ronda, where lighting was perceived as insufficient, and the Workshops and Garages facility, also improving working conditions for staff.
In the stations of Méndez Núñez, Recogidas, and Alcázar Genil, linear panels have been replaced with double LED strips, giving a more current and modern appearance. At Alcázar Genil, the upgrade was more comprehensive, including the platforms and the Albercón archaeological site, a cultural space within the station.
The access ramps to the Camino de Ronda tunnel have seen their halogen projectors, which operated 24 hours a day, replaced by LED projectors with astronomical clocks, reducing their operation to non-sunlight hours and eliminating 3,000 hours of annual use.
At the Workshops and Garages facility, the external perimeter lighting has been increased to enhance security, and LED projectors have been added to the maintenance workstations for rolling stock. LED technology has also been implemented in pits, walkways, the service station, track area, warehouse, and employee parking lots.
Finally, in the underpass of Cerrillo Maracena, all fluorescent tubes in the side lighting and information screens have been replaced with LED strips, along with a complete renovation of the underpass, stairs, landings, and corridors with LED technology.
