The Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes hosted the final match of the season for Granada CF, which drew 1-1 against Sporting de Gijón. The game, with nothing significant at stake for either team after Granada secured their league status weeks ago, was characterized by the farewells of several red-and-white players who will not continue next season.
The scoring was opened by a spectacular goal from José Arnaiz in the 2nd minute, a powerful shot from the edge of the box that beat the visiting goalkeeper. Sporting managed to equalize in first-half stoppage time with a goal from Otero, who beat Astralaga after a cross deflected off Diego Hormigo.
The second half saw a disallowed goal for Sergio Ruiz due to offside in the 66th minute, following a good cross from Arnaiz. Arnaiz himself had hit the post in the 64th minute, after a play initiated by Diocou. The match, which offered few other clear chances, reflected the lack of competitive tension.
Before the match and during halftime, the Granada club paid tribute to players such as Pablo Sáenz and Manu Trigueros, who bid farewell to the fans and, in Trigueros' case, also to professional football. Other loaned players or those whose contracts are ending, such as Loïc Williams, Álex Sola, Astralaga, Diaby, Gagnidze, Izan, Petit, Diocou, and Bouldini, also received recognition from the stands.
