The mayor of Jaén, Julio Millán, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Beatriz López, has presented the 38th edition of the 'Manuel Pancorbo' International Urban Mile. The race will take place tomorrow, Monday, October 12th, on the circuit set up by the Municipal Sports Board on Virgen de la Cabeza street, approved by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.
The presentation was attended by former athlete Manuel Pancorbo, representative of Caja Rural de Jaén José Manuel Robledo, and several elite athletes. Among them are the winners of recent editions Ignacio Fontes, U20 World Champion Josephine Sembeyo, Spanish 10,000m runner-up Carla Gallardo, and Spanish 3,000m steeplechase champion Daniel Arce, among others.
Mayor Millán praised the work of the Municipal Sports Board, highlighting the record participation numbers and the impeccable organization of recent athletics events. "A race reaching its 38th edition is a reflection of decades of effort, passion, perseverance, and community," he stated, emphasizing how the event transforms the streets of Jaén into a sporting stage under the motto 'Jaén, city of athletics'.
Councilor Beatriz López described Jaén's mile as "one of the great middle-distance events in Spain," bringing together national and international figures and offering a unique closeness between athletes and the public.
Manuel Pancorbo himself expressed his gratitude: "I am a very lucky man because an event bearing my name has endured for 38 editions, and because I have also managed to be a prophet in my own land, as I feel very loved."
The event will also feature races for the U12, U14, U16, U18, U20, U23, senior, and veteran categories, for both men and women. The competition can be followed live from 10:00 AM on the official YouTube channel of "Jaén, Ciudad del Atletismo" and the Municipal Sports Board platform. It will also be broadcast on delay on Teledeporte and Canal Sur, and streamed for free on RTVE Play from 12:55 PM.
