Mohamed Attaoui was crowned the men's champion of the 38th International Autumn Urban Mile “Manuel Pancorbo” in Jaén, with a time of 4 minutes and 21 seconds. In the women's category, Marta Mitjans not only secured victory but also broke the event's record with a time of 4:44.
The competition, held on the circuit at Virgen de la Cabeza street, saw the participation of approximately 300 athletes, ranging from the under-12 category to veterans. The event combined the presence of elite athletes with popular runners, resulting in a festive day for athletics.
In the men's category, Attaoui won in a closely contested finish, followed by Carlos Saez and Víctor Ruiz. In the women's race, Mitjans achieved her second victory at the Jaén Mile after overtaking Josephine Sembeyo in an exciting final sprint, setting a new record.
The Councilor for Sports, Beatriz López, congratulated the winners and highlighted Jaén's suitability as a venue for hosting top-level races. She emphasized the mile's importance as a significant event in the city's sports calendar, alongside the San Antón race and the half marathon.
The athletics event included, in addition to the two international races, ten other races for various categories (U12, U14, U16, U18, U20, U23, senior, and master), for both men and women. The top three finishers in each category received trophies.
The race could be watched live via streaming on the official YouTube channel of “Jaén, Ciudad del Atletismo” and on RTVE Play. Teledeporte and Canal Sur TV will broadcast the event on delay in the coming days.
