The National Police have carried out a significant operation against marijuana cultivation in the North District of Granada, resulting in the arrest of ten individuals and the dismantling of three homes used for intensive cannabis farming. In the operation, conducted on May 28, a total of 650 drug plants were seized.
The operation, which had the collaboration of Endesa technicians, also highlighted the electricity fraud associated with these plantations. During the first phase, officers searched two homes adapted for cultivation, confiscating nearly 370 plants and arresting two people for drug trafficking and electricity fraud offenses.
Subsequently, a third property was located, entirely transformed into a clandestine cultivation site, where 262 plants, approximately 70 centimeters tall, were found. In this intervention, another eight people were arrested, bringing the total to ten detainees aged between 18 and 47. Seven of the arrestees are of Colombian nationality, and one had prior records related to drug trafficking.
Beyond the plant seizures, the operation was notable for detecting electricity fraud. During an inspection of the connections of 72 homes, carried out with Endesa personnel, illegal hookups were identified in all of them, leading to the identification of five individuals for this alleged offense.
This action is part of the Plan Norte, an active police initiative in the area to combat the cultivation and distribution of marijuana, as well as the problems arising from illegal electricity hookups, which cause economic losses, supply disruptions, and fire risks for residents.
